We would like to share with you some great news from LightHouse’s MAD Lab! They produced and updated several accessible maps of each and every Bay Area Rapid Transit station, totaling over 150 maps.

12 years ago, MAD Lab set out to create accessible tactile and Braille maps of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train stations.

Tactile maps are crucial Orientation and Mobility tools as they can help teach safe travel skills.

Each tactile station map has Braille and contains a street level view showing the station with surroundings, a station entrances and fare machines, a platform view showing the platform with benches and the location of trackways. Also, all views show stairways, escalators and elevators connecting the various levels of each station.

MAD is offering free accessible transit maps to Bay Area residents until the end of 2022.

“BART station are a huge plus for our community”, said Bryan Bashin, LightHouse CEO.
